king Kong (1933) see text

King Kong is a 1933 Hollywood horror-adventure film in black-and-white about a gigantic prehistoric gorilla named Kong. The film is now an absolute classic and has had many sequels and remakes, the last one in 2005.

The original film was made by RKO and directed by Merian C. Cooper.

The film starts in New York City. Carl Denham, a film director famous for shooting 'animal pictures' in remote and exotic locations is looking for an actress to star in his newest project. He finds a poor girl, Ann Darrow (Fay Wray) , who has been caught trying to steal an apple by a greengrocer. Denham pays off the proprietor then buys Ann a sandwich and cup of coffee and offers her a job starring in his new film. Ann accepts.

They set sail the following morning on the ship Venture. They travel for weeks, going in the general direction of Indonesia.

After maintaining secrecy for much of the trip, Denham finally tells the crew that they're searching for an island uncharted on any normal map.  Denham says that two years earlier a sailor gave him the only map on which it is charted and told him about a monster called Kong who lived in that island.

When they finally arrive at the island's shore, they see a native village separated from the rest of the island by an enormous, ancient wall. An expedition from the ship encounters the natives, who are about to hand over a girl to Kong as a ritual sacrifice. Captain Englehorn can understand the native language. The chief of the tribe proposes to swap six native women for Ann, an offer Denham delicately declines.

Back on the ship, Ann is captured by a group of natives in a canoe and she is handed over to Kong in a ceremony; Kong takes Ann and soon falls in love with her. Kong fights a Tyrannosaurus rex to protect Ann Darrow and later he fights a pterodactyl. While Kong is distracted, Jack, a sailor, rescues Ann and takes her back to the wall. Kong chases them,  Denham throws a gas bomb, knocking Kong unconscious and then he decides to take him to New York.

The next scene begins in a theatre. As the curtain lifts we see a chained King Kong on the stage.  All goes well until photographers begin taking photos of Ann and Jack, who are by now engaged to marry. Under the impression that the flashbulbs are attacking Ann, Kong breaks his chains and escapes from the theatre. He runs through the city streets, destroying a train and killing a number of citizens.

king kong (2005)

He manages to find Ann in a hotel room and carries her up the Empire State Building. By this time, the authorities have summoned four airplanes to shoot Kong down. King Kong puts Ann down and climbs to the top of the building, trying to fight off the planes. In spite of destroying one of them, he finally falls to his death in the street below. A New York City policeman remarks, "Well Mr. Denham, the airplanes got him," but Denham replies, "Oh, no, it wasn't the airplanes; it was beauty killed the beast."
